08:00 – Are we Operating Safe Apparatus? – A realistic look at how truly safe the apparatus we operate is, how to rectify issues and avoid problems to keep your personnel safe. Instructor Tom Shand, Emergency Vehicle Response
10:00 – A Survivors Story- Fire Service Cancer – One firefighter’s personal account with his battle and road to recovery. He will also discuss the latest trends affecting firefighter health and ways to protect you from this disease. Instructor Deputy Chief Steve Weissman, Stafford County Fire & Rescue.
10:00 – Foam More than Making Bubbles – An overview of foam operations for the rookie through the seasoned firefighter and officer. This will be a classroom and hands on. Deputy Chief Bart Lace
12:30 – Insurance Services Office Fire Suppression Rating Schedule, What You Need To Know – An overview of the current ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule and one departments successful efforts to improve their rating. Instructor Chief Dustin Amtower, New Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Phillip Leitma, Senior Field Representative, Insurance Services Office.
12:30 – The Fire Puzzle — Knowing fire behavior, Reading Smoke, and Flow Path Management separately is one thing. With this class you will see how putting them together well help the fire officer understand and predict what going to happen rather than just what’s happening. There will also be discussion on what is and where to look for the fatal funnels. Instructor FF/Technician Adam Funkhouser, Winchester Fire and Rescue Department.
14:30 – Risk Control for Mid-Level Managers – This program is designed to re-introduce the emergency services officer (supervisor, FTO, etc.) to risk control and how it plays an integral part in safety as well as overall operations. Topics include Risk Management, Risk Control Techniques, Roles and Responsibilities, Risk Control Pitfalls. The program concludes with review of actual case studies covering various risks involving vehicles, medical malpractice, and employment practices and general liability. Instructor John Kottmyer.
